Despite a deep hunger for learning in the area, students and teachers have to work in extremely horrible conditions: exposed toilets, lack of desks, gaping holes in walls, no running water, electricity, books, etc ...

Fostering Education and Health for Development
As we gather in D.C. for the 9th Afoakom-USA Annual Convention from June 21 – June 24, 2012 we are all looking forward with excitement to meeting our friends and Afoakom members and well-wishers from all over the United States and around the world. We will use this opportunity to celebrate our achievements of the past year, and take time to reflect on the path ahead as we strive to fulfill our mission and attain our objectives. But most importantly we will raise funds aimed at alleviating the condition of our people back home, in continuation of the vision from Minnesota 2011.

Education and Health for Development
This year’s Convention continues the 2010 theme of “Education and Health for Development”. A major fundraising effort will accompany all our activities at this Convention to bring awareness to the plight of kids in primary schools in Kom. Concretely we have engaged to do the following:
  • Furnish primary schools in Kom with basic school supplies and amenities to improve the learning condition of our young scholars.
  • Construct clean toilets to improve sanitation and health conditions in remote primary schools.

How can you help?
We hope that you will be attending the DC Convention. However if you cannot make it for whatever reason, we hope that we can still count on your generous support:
  • Buy a Convention Weekend Package ($150.00)
  • Buy a Cultural Night or Gala Night ticket($25.00 each)
  • Advertise your services or products in the Convention Magazine
  • Donate in cash or kind (Afoakom USA is a 501(c) organization)
